Appl. Appl. Math. (AAM) Vol. 1, No. 1 (June 2006)

Dear Colleagues all over the world wherever you are,

We are very please to inform you of online publication of Volume 1, Number 1 issue (the Inaugural Issue) of our journal, Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM).  Please find it at  http://acad.pvamu.edu/content/mathdept/AAMJournal.html. Our next issue will be online in December of 2006.

We know that many of you are spending your summer months away from your offices, but hopefully have access to your e-mails and check them for good news like this. It is important to stay connected and informed.  We know that it has taken much longer than anticipated to publish the first issue of our Journal.  Some delays were due to change of our university’s servers, some due to finding appropriate reviewers for some of the articles’ topics for the first time, some due to being understaffed, and, of course, some due to lack of financial availability.  Yet, we made it.

Since assuming the duties of the Founding Editors-in-Chief in the summer of 2004, to revive a quarter of century old mathematical journal before it stopped due to the fall of communism and change of government in Bulgaria, one of our primary and most urgent concerns has been the assurance of excellence and high standard of articles to be included in an online publication such as AAM.  Each paper has been reviewed by at least two reviewers.  Unfortunately some papers submitted by some excellent mathematicians had to be rejected for variety of reasons.  However, with all it took, we still have a long way to go.  As with any aspect of our work, there is a room for improvement.  We are willing to take an honest, objective look at our efforts and re-commit to doing our best for our future issues.

We are so grateful for the help of many who made this task possible.  Dr. Dimitar Michev with his constant help and advice, all reviewers with their patience, the contributors with their high quality papers and their patience for revisions, the board of editors who gave us the honor of working with them, the Office of Institutional Relations and Public Service at Prairie View A&M University for providing the opportunity and assistance to put the journal online.
