Scholarships for the 2007-2008 Academic Year
This year, we have several recipients of the Roby W. Hilliard Memorial Fund Scholarship.
Congratulations to all of you! They are:
  • Candice Bogan, a junior Communications major from Houston. Candice works at Wal-Mart as a cashier and is a member of Hempstead Outreach Program in Education and the Xi Delta Chi Sorority and the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society.
 
  • Adrienne Cain, senior double major in History and English. Adrienne resides in Prairie View and is a member of several sororities and honor societies, including Sigma Tau Delta (English honor society) and Alpha Kappa Alpha. She is involved in the Council of student government and symphonic band. In the community, she has gotten involved in KPVU's Radio-Thon and clothing and canned food drives.
 
  • Lidia Cue is a junior from Cypress, TX. She is a major in Spanish and is expected to graduate in December 2007. She is a native of Buenos Aires who, years ago, arrived in the U.S. to start a new life. Her goal is to pursue her dream of teaching Spanish at the high school level and sending her three children to college.
 
  • Sonia Marrero is a resident of Houston. She transferred to PV from a community college with her focus on Spanish. She is part of the Barnabas Outreach Foundation, the Tiger Club Den Leader, PTO Member Postma Elementary. She is the wedding coordinator at First Metropolitan Church and is a Solid Rock volunteer.
 
  • Magda Montoya comes from Colombia originally. She is a junior Spanish major who is also a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and loves to cook, read and walk. She currently resides in Houston and is a transfer student.
 
  • Claudia Munoz is from Cypress, TX and is a double major in Spanish and Political Science. She is a member of LULAC, University Scholars, the Political Science Club, and Navy Anchorettes. She is involved in G-Force and P.A.W. (Panthers at Work).
 
  • Sharonda Peals is a native of Mansfield, TX. She is a senior in Communications. She belongs to the American Marketing Association and the Association for Black Communications Majors. She is a member of the Panther news staff.
 
  • Domonique Pugh is from Houston and is a freshman Communications major. She is on the Campus Activities Board and is a member of Sisters with Vision.
 
  • Jessica Salazar is a freshman from Austin. She is specializing in Spanish and Education and belongs to LULAC, G-Force, ISO, and Navy Anchorettes.
 
  • Ashley Slayton is a native of Longview, TX. She is a sophomore in Communications. She is on the staff of The Panther and is part of NSCS and a youth group and PALS at LISD.
 
  • Justin Tabor is a Communications major in his first year at PV. He is from DeSoto. He is part of the TX Primitive Baptist Youth Congress and is a Best Southwest TX Scholar.

Scholarships for the 2005-2006 Academic Year

Congratulations to the Department of Languages and Communications 2005/2006 scholarship winners! We wish them the best of luck in their endeavors! They are:

  • Endira Hawkins--a sophomore Radio/TV major who has aspirations to become a news anchor. She has a 4.0 GPA and is involved in many campus organizations.
  • Janeth Carranza--a senior majoring in Spanish and Biology. She is a bilingual member of Big Brothers and Sisters and Sigma Delta Pi who plans to be a doctor.
  • DeAndrea Harris--a freshman in English and Spanish, she's a proud member of Marching Storm. She intends to become an instructor of ESL.
  • Dyan Harris--a sophomore English major who also plays volleyball and is a part of Meals on Wheels when she's not studying, Dyan will become an English teacher some day and, eventually, a college professor.
