The Office of the Vice President for Research and Development has three major components: research administration, institutional development, and alumni affairs. Through external funding, the office also includes business contract partnerships, Title III, and the P.E.A.C.E Project. Several of the responsibilities associated with research administration are provided through contractual arrangements with the Texas A&M Research Foundation. The vice president reports directly to the president and assists the president in the overall strategic planning and advancing of the mission of the university. The vice president and his staff, including the associate vice president, director of development, director of alumni relations, director of Title III, and the director of the P.E.A.C.E project have responsibility for meeting the goals and objectives of the office. The personnel assigned to each function is presented on the attached organizational chart.
The goals of the Office of Research and Development are designed to support the mission of the university. As an administrative unit, the Office of Research and Development has direct responsibility for helping the university achieve its goals. The Office of Research and Development has taken the necessary steps to diversify and broaden its base of support for research and development. As we continue to assist in finding funding for the research, education and service missions of the University, research and development activities are being refined to better target state government, federal agencies, foundations, corporations and individuals.
Within the domain of research and development, the University is actively pursuing opportunities for contracts, technology transfer and strategic partnerships with other universities, federal agencies and selected members of the private sector. Pursuing opportunities for contracts, technology transfer, and strategic partnerships will provide the university with other means to improve and expand its educational programs, provide additional community services, and get students into the workplace prior to graduation. Additionally, such activities will foster opportunities for faculty, staff and students to collaborate with their peers and share in the excitement of discovery and contribute to the base of knowledge needed to solve societal problems. This change in the University's strategy exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit associated with the university positioning itself to make greater contributions to the state, the nation and the world.
