Bio-Hazards and Recombinant DNA and Radiation Safety
All university research involving recombinant DNA molecules must adhere to the Department of Health and Human Services Guidelines for Research. This is required of all research in which recombinant DNA is used, regardless of funding source. more >>
Prairie View A&M University is committed to compliance through the maintenance of ethical standards and the creation of an environment suitable for the conduct of quality research. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) policy dictates that eligibility for receipt of any and all federal funds at the University requires a commitment to actively comply with a number of federal regulations regarding research related activities. Compliance is a commitment to the fundamental ethical responsibilities of sound, replicable research and scholarship and this positively affects the overall integrity of the research, outreach, teaching and service missions of the university. The compliance office is charged with “creating a culture of compliance” and a commitment to quality in all of the Prairie View activities. This commitment is accomplished through education, awareness and support of researchers and the global community to make a concerted effort in the protection of human participants, the humane treatment of vertebrate animals used in research, teaching and outreach, and the special handling of biohazardous and radioactive materials. Federal regulations stipulate and require review and approval of all proposed research plans and protocols regardless of funding source or status. The compliance office manages the ethics review committees, liaises with the federal offices and provides support for related administrative activities.
